It's new, or was when I bought it a few months ago. I'll trade it in 2-3 years, as I now drive 35K miles per year. My previous dd was a 2000 F250. I also bought it new, and it had 153K miles on it when I traded it because upkeep and fuel costs were getting out of hand. (The majority of the miles on it were accumulated in the past 3 years.)

The main reason I didn't lease was due to the high number of miles I must drive. I also don't think leasing is normally the smart way to "own" a vehicle. I've never leased a car and don't expect I ever will. I've leased other business equipment and wasn't too pleased with the outcome -- costing me more than outright purchases would have.

My wife's daily driver is 18 years old and needs washed, so we'll probably trade it soon. Seriously, it only has 65K miles on it, and 40K of those were on it when she bought it 17 years ago. It would last her the rest of her life as much as she drives (<20 miles per week), but we need a 4x4/AWD vehicle, and her car is getting a little rough around the edges.

1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I've got 30K on my second engine in it.
The 4.0 I-6 engine runs great and there's a lot of rebuilts out there to swap out when the old one gets worn out for a fraction of a new car price.
Of course, living in L.A. where there's no rust allows the exterior to look like new almost 20 years later.

99 Camry with 220,000 miles.....leasing is exponentially more expensive over term....I haven't had a payment on this vehicle since 2002. You tell me, what's cheaper?

Obviously leasing isn't ideal for you as you keep your cars till they die.

He/she was referring to those who keep their vehicles for only a few years before swapping them out. The OP wasn't asking which method was "cheaper".
