Since the OP has not taken delivery on the car, I would like to think there are options available for the OP.

I bought a used Audi A4 four weeks ago here in (near Atlanta) and there was a Check Engine Light on the car. The car was listed as a CPO and they said that it was just a sensor that was bad and that they would change it out. I test drove the car and it drove fine. The used dealership's service dept. replaced the the spark plugs and all the coils and it was still giving the CEL (misfiring cylinders). So, it was sent two different times to the Audi dealership service department to be fixed and the CEL would come back on after a few hours of being off when driven 50 miles back to the place I bought it.

Last Saturday after three weeks of not having the car, I drove down to the place (furious) where I bought it and was basically telling them I want my money back. They said that they "don't do" refunds. They told me that I could pick another car on their lot that was worth the same amount as the one I bought. The problem is is that I don't like any of the other cars on their lot, and if any of them is an as-is sale, I don't really trust it to not have any mechanical problems. The original loaner car they gave me didn't have any working headlights. So my faith in their ability to fix anything is pretty low right now. I agreed to give them one more week for them to send it back, for a third time, to the Audi dealership service department and be fixed. It will now be 4 full weeks as of this Sunday. I don't want to have to settle for some car I don't want after dropping the kind of cash I have on this. I paid for the car in full with no loan.

Anybody have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Where exactly in metro ATL did you buy this car, so I make sure I never go there. This almost sounds like a place in Union City where I once bought a used car and many of the cars I test drove looked great but were falling apart.

I'll PM you. I don't really want to list it anywhere until this is resolved.

If it isn't an Audi CPO warranty, then who is the warranty underwritten by? Does it allow you to take it anywhere you want? If so, get it out of their hands and take it to a VW/Audi specialist shop!
Agreed. I have no idea about this certified pre-owned thing, but whenever I buy a car, I automatically assume that every word coming out of the car salesman's mouth is a lie. With this in mind, I take whichever car I am interested in to my trusted mechanic BEFORE I buy it because in my state of TX, as in most states, a buyer has no legal recourse for problems with a used car after purchase except with deliberate fraud or title problems. I then pay $75-$100 for each car to have my mechanic tell me yay or nay on the health of the vehicle.

Most people don't do that though. Why? Because they don't want to cough up the $75 or $100 and they assume any problems will be obvious and/or they trust these clowns who are trying to make money off them and sell them used cars which may or may not be in good condition (and often aren't or they wouldn't be for sale in the first place). That is a mistake. I don't delude myself into thinking I know all about cars. I know very little. That's what my mechanic is for.

The last time I bought a car, (June 2014), I had to take three cars to my mechanic before the last one passed muster. The first two had several problems the sellers deliberately tried to hide from me to get me to buy them, and I would not have known about them without my mechanic's assistance. With the last one, he told it needed a rear brake job within a few months of purchase but was otherwise sound. For a mere $250, I save myself a lot of headache, and in the nine months since I purchased it, it's only needed: a rear brake job

The one thing that occurs to me is whether the dealer is engaging in deceptive practices by using the term CPO, knowing that most people interpret it as having some special value because the manufacturer supposedly stands behind it.

If you're talking to a lawyer I'd at least raise that theory.

Yes that makes sense. I will certainly explain everything that has happened to the Audi dealership tomorrow that (supposedly) has been working on the car. They may give me info that contradicts what the used car place has been telling me. And if that is the case, I really will raise $#%^.

Just an update for everyone.

The original service manager I was dealing with, no longer works at the car place. They said he "no longer works here", which I'm guessing means he probably got fired (about a month ago now). Anyway, they have a new service manager that is A LOT better to deal with. He actually has been in touch informing me what is going on instead of avoiding me. They had to pull the cylinder head out and send it to a specialist shop in L.A. to be machined to fix the wrong spark plugs that were seized in the engine (I still think the original service manager is the one that did that, but have no proof of course). The cylinder head got sent back to the repair shop at the end of last week. Some of the valves were bent too so they are being replaced. They have gotten an Audi repair specialist to come to the shop to finish putting it back together (probably to make sure the timing is done right). Scheduled to be finished by next week.

Yes, they called it a CPO warranty, but in reality it is just a warranty by the used car dealership (not an Audi dealer). That plus I had it put in the sales contract. I can't even imagine how expensive it's been in total for them to fix this car. But they are standing by what they said about fixing the car. Even though it's taken 3 months. I've had a loaner car the whole time provided by them, so all in all, nothing extra out of my pocket thankfully.
