OK, so this debate is just for fun. Let's say that aliens came from outer space and took over the planet and made a bunch of stupid rules.
And one of the rules was that as a planet we could only manufacture one type of vehicle, or just one vehicle, that everyone had to use as a passenger car. So don't worry about things like construction and delivery. We are talking about personal/family vehicle. Which vehicle or vehicle type would you think best suits the needs of the majority of people?

It's already been done - practically - back in the USSR. There was about 3 car choices.
I think, one Herr Alois Shiklgruber already specified this to one Herr Ferdinand Porsche: it has to be reliable, affordable by average family, fit four, and have very good gas mileage. That bore VW Beetle back in the 30s.

Come on. Everyone knows it would be the F150 whether it was needed or not.

three cars are not one car. And I'd like to talk about cars we have today. I think we can all agree that no one would pick the Beetle.

I would actually pick a medium to smaller SUV. Like my 4runner. It gives you the cargo room, the ability to carry stuff and dogs, the ability to deal with any kind of weather, and room for car seats.

Right now, I have three different cars for my various car enjoyment needs. But obviously, my two seater SL 550 would not win as a choice for the most versatile family car.

Do they have a sense of humor?

If so, then it would be a Fiat 500. Good luck, family of 5! Hahahahaha.

Honda Ridgeline. Rides like a car, has a trunk like a car, fits a family of 5 comfortably and has a bed for when you need to haul something.
