When you get a quote for tires over the phone and you tell the service mgr the year, make and model of your car, is the quote based on what the original equipment was? My original tires were 92 V and what I got was a 91T. I checked Tire rack and found a significant difference in price. Will it make any difference in performance and wear?

92 equals a load rating of 1389 and a speed rating of V equals 149 mph which is mostly found on sport sedans, coupes and sports cars.

91 equals a load rating of 1356 and a speed rating of T equals 118 mph which is mostly found on family sedans and vans.

The faster a tire can go, the softer the rubber compound they use to make it (softer rubber grips dry pavement better), so the tire will wear out faster than a "slower" rated tire.

Your load ratings will only be important for trucks mostly. If you are hauling some serious tonnage or pull a heavy trailer you'd want to invest in a tire with a higher load capacity.

I would say your going to be perfectly fine. As long as its a tire for the season(s) your running them in and you keep them proper inflated.

dont forget that softer tires with more grip = better braking performance (since the brakes stop the wheels/tires and thus the tires stop the car). if your car came equipped with a V-rated tire and you move to a T, if you are like me anyway you'll notice the difference in braking feel and distance.

hybrids have high load ratings on their tires too, btw.
