If you watch the numbers on the pump, you'll be focusing on the time it takes to pump the gas. Don't watch the numbers, and think about something else. The time will seem to pass quicker.
Or you could just dress properly for the occasion.
I play a game with myself -- have since gas went sky high a few years back. I go in knowing approximately how much gas I have left, and I guess how much it will take to fill my car, and then try to figure out what the dollar amount will be, but choose odd ball numbers. I'm never right, but sometimes I get close, and last time I thought I'd pump 18.91 and pumped 19.81.
Keeps me entertained. Which when you're pumping gas is sort of the point.
Diversion. Excellent time to clean out the car and round up cups, wrappers, etc., the kidlets have accumulated. Could also use the opportunity to clean your wind shield.
He gave me a tip about pumping gas that I would like to pass on. He said towards the end of pumping your gas, lift the middle of the hose up to get the gas that would otherwise be left behind inside the hose. It's not much gas in there but some people like to get every drop they can.
You aren't getting any extra gas from the hose, the tip of the nozzle maybe but not the actual hose.
