Move to Oregon or New Jersey where someone else pumps your gas for you, while you sit in your warm car. Problem solved.

If you watch the numbers on the pump, you'll be focusing on the time it takes to pump the gas. Don't watch the numbers, and think about something else. The time will seem to pass quicker.

Or you could just dress properly for the occasion.

I play a game with myself -- have since gas went sky high a few years back. I go in knowing approximately how much gas I have left, and I guess how much it will take to fill my car, and then try to figure out what the dollar amount will be, but choose odd ball numbers. I'm never right, but sometimes I get close, and last time I thought I'd pump 18.91 and pumped 19.81.

Keeps me entertained. Which when you're pumping gas is sort of the point.

Even better, move somewhere where it's warm & sunny most of the year.

Diversion. Excellent time to clean out the car and round up cups, wrappers, etc., the kidlets have accumulated. Could also use the opportunity to clean your wind shield.

I like to wash my car with that car washer squeege thing (they need to change the water more often) they provide for you while having a smoke

You aren't getting any extra gas from the hose, the tip of the nozzle maybe but not the actual hose.
