My friend insist that any gas left in the hose is gas you've paid for. As you can see on the diagram below, the meter is on top of the hose. He said the secret is to lift the hose right at the end when it usually go really slow and before the trigger pops.

Like I said, there aren't much gas in the hose. Nothing to get excited about. I usually don't think of it until I'm finished pumping my gas.

We just finished a cold winter where I live and had a cold windy night at the gas pump yesterday.

So here is my question, one which may have plagued mankind since the invention of self serve at the pump.
On a cold windy day when you dont have your coat does your tank fill up faster if you watch the pump and the numbers go by or if you turn away and don't watch the pump?

Personally I find a combination is quickest but hey that's just me.
I'm pretty sure either way the gas will pump at the same rate.

I have also found trying to read the meter through the reflection on a car window speeds things up but then when I drive away the world looks reversed.

I would happily stand in the cold to get gas in NJ since I am from NY. Taxes are much less.

It doesn't seem that way to me but things can be deceiving after all the Earth usually looks pretty flat to me.

Neither. I live in New Jersey, so I don't get out of the car in the first place!

?? Gas station attendants are not in unions.

No-self-serve is the law. I'm OK with it. I'd rather let someone else do it. Paying all that money, someone SHOULD be pumping gas.
