I wonder even if you satisfied the conditions how much hassle it will be getting them to release the lien. Do you just call them up and someone cheerfully sends you a lien release or do you have to drive down there and deal with someone who at the same time is trying hard to sell you next years model?

I hear their ads on the radio fairly often. So, this puts things a bit in perspective.

i agree, i bought one elsewhere.. the hell with them.

This actually happens from time to time. Usually it means the dealer has sold the car but doesn't want the lender who finances their floorplan to know because they don't want to pay for it. And sometimes a vehicle is sold and a couple of steps are missed which causes the inventory to not be updated.

But, yes, sometimes a dealership does leave an unavailable car in their promotional material in the hope it will get someone on the lot.

I saw a car in an ad listed for $4500.. I liked the pic and called and they said yep it is in the paint shop getting color sanded and buffed.. I said I will be down....

Went down and they "went to check on it" and came back and said sorry it wasn't the one they had in the ad and that had already been sold.. Would I like to look at something else????

Walked around (with a salesman following me) and I spot this car (exactly the same as I called about) on the back lot.. I said hey I like that one can we look at it??? he checks and says yep let me get the keys.... He came back and said be careful it was just out of the paint shop....

I looked it over and then said how much.. he said $5800... I said but the one in the add was $4500... He said yes but this isn't the one...

I said yes it is and showed him the ad with the VIN in the ad and then showed him the VIN on the car.... Same car... He should never have showed it to me except they had repainted it another color and he thought it was a different car.... Old color was black and now it was like a red/orange.....

I ended up buying the car for the ad price and they paid for the registration and plates and threw in a 12 /12,000 warranty and it already had a new paint job.... So I was set...
