So i brought in my santa fe for some warranty issues (2014 with 17k miles) , one of the issues being my navigation wasnt working. It gave me an error saying
"This is not the proper map data. Please check and try again"
Turns out they are denying my warranty to replace the corrupted SD card!
They said that after talking to the district service manager, there are only 2 ways this could happen.
1)from the factory- meaning it never worked
2)that i corrupted the data
Their claiming i corrupted the card trying to "update" the nav, which is impossible since i never even touched the sd card since i bought it. Never mind the fact the updates are done with a new sd card anyways.
I ended up calling hyundai customer service and was told there is nothing that could be done as the district service manager has the last say!
So now I have a $35k suv with no working navigation, unless i pay over $300 for them to "fix" it!
ugghh, so pissed right now over this, hopefully i'll get this figured out!
Does this seem legal, to deny warranty? They have not even told me how it got corrupted, they just assume it was tampered with.
Sounds about right. We washed our hands of Hyundai when they refused to fix a broken flywheel under warranty. They even lied to us about what parts were in the car, and never actually inspected it to see.
That 100k powertrain warranty is great on paper... Just wait until you actually have a warranty claim that should clearly be covered.
1. you didn't try to update the maps
2. SD cards fail ALL THE TIME. Ask anyone that has owned a camera for more than a few years. Card fails, data is lost or corrupted.
Through no fault of yours, the navigation system stopped working. Raise holy hell.
A 32 Gb SD card costs $20. They should replace it and reload the maps.

Exactly. I cannot even believe an automaker would even spend the time to set up a battle over this. In the grand scheme of warranty repairs, this should be an extremely quick and cheap thing for Hyundai to do. Talk about a poorly choosing your battles.
OP, best of luck, I would ask to speak to the regional rep directly. Get his number. Explain exactly what you did (or did not) do. He is assuming you did something to damage the card when clearly you did nothing. Having a conversation about it could clear it all up.
If not, you will have to pursue what your legal rights are for denied warranty work in your state.
People who are LIARS think other people are liars...
People who are honest think other people are honest...
So tell them just because they are LIARS and Cheats, that does not mean you are too. Then keep repeating to them that you did not do ANYTHING to the navigation system.
