If you mean road work that's happening. Fines, at least here in MD double and many of the zones have a MSP trooper sitting there pulling zone speeders over.

A lot of states are also enacting "Pull over or slow down" laws where a driver has to slow down or pull over into the adjacent lane if there is police action, emergency vehicles or workers on the shoulder.

The best way to make sure kids get hit by cars is to distract drivers by making them look at their speedometer, look at their watch, and look for hiding police when driving through school entrapment zones, instead of looking for children.

How long has it been since you actually saw a child alive on foot in or near a school zone? They all ride the bus nowadays, which doesn't load or unload on the street near the school, and if there are walking children present, there are crosswalk guards.

My cousin's daughters went to a school where children arriving on foot were denied entry. If they missed their bus, they had to be driven to school in a car, which was two blocks from their house. And sure enough, there was a school zone speed enforcement, even though years would go by without a single child arriving on foot.

A good many adults I know, don't have fully-developed brains either. Especially those speeding in school zones or passing school buses stopped, with their flashers on and arms extended.

In my opinion, if you pass a stopped school bus with its flasher on and arms extended and there are any kids around, it should be immediate roadside execution. (ok, that's an exaggeration, but there really is no excuse).

I agree with both of these statements. I drive fast, really fast sometimes (highways), but school zones are the exception. Always obey school zones.

Having said that, when school zone flashing lights malfunction, I always report them to the authorities. There was one near our house that was flashing at odd times, clearly not school times. I reported it, told them that people get in the habit of ignoring it because they know it's not correct, and next thing you know, they ignore it all the time, even when it is right.

Took three calls before it was fixed. Last call was to city council member. Suddenly, it was fixed.

Like any other law ;some just think they do not have to obey laws. Then the protest when caught.

All the time. Kids walk to school near me. Crosswalk guards can't stop a kid from darting into traffic.

I think the issue is that the 25 mph school zone sign did not have yellow flashing lights, but instead had the times listed when the school zone was in effect
...
That's OK, I've seen a number of people act the same way even when the lights were on... Doesn't seem to matter to someone who feels inconvenienced by a 1000 foot delay.

The worst driving that I see on a daily basis is outside of my kids school and most of the offenders are other parents. Its not usually speeding that I see but rather self absorbed and oblivious driving. They will park on the wrong side of the street, park on corners, in front of people's driveways, etc. and they will pull into traffic without looking at the road or looking out for pedestrians but rather they are watching their kid walk into he school as they drive off. It's super dangerous and drives me crazy.

Many people are selfish these days - have NO CONSIDERATION for other people, kids, etc. They tailgate, fly through stop signs, text while driving, and speed through school and construction zones.

I think this is because they were raised on video games and movies which don't teach them that there are consequences for their actions - they are surprised when they kill someone, then suddenly are faced with spending the rest of their lives in jail! ("How do I press reset on this real life video game?")

Just because a sign says school zone, doesn't mean you have to slow down. It really has to do with timing, 7-9am and 2-4pm are the only times when kids are outside the building grounds.
