Even a dealer would junk it as he wants no part of liability in selling a junker in case buyer gets killed by non-maintained problem. One reason to keep service records as even a passenger can sue you if it causes injury by known problem or neglect.

How can a seller be held liable if the car is being sold as-is? Especially if problems are disclosed prior to the sale
Do you still have insurance on it? Comprehensive? If so, you might get that fixed for free or very little.
I've had a couple windshields that broke, and the insurance company just told me to get an estimate, then gave me a check for the estimate less my deductible. Once the insurance was settled I went shopping and found a place to get it done for half of the original estimate, so I actually made money on the replacements.
I prefer private party without a doubt. I just sold a 2006 BMW 330i with 145k miles for $4300. KBB pegged the trade in value at $1700. KBB had the private party value at $4452 so let's do the math......I spent 5 hours of my time and $5 for a craigslist ad which translates to over $500/hour for my time. I would have to work two full weeks at my job to make up the $2600 after taxes are considered.
Used car dealers really don't provide much of a service. Many will claim total ignorance (sometimes justified) as to a car's history and if they don't offer a warranty what is the point? Plus I just don't like dealing with used car dealers, rather deal with normal folk who aren't professionals.
I've sold two cars to CarMax and it was super quick and super easy. Fair price and I didn't want to deal with strangers coming to my house and all that BS

Exactly, to some people the time and energy that goes into selling your car isn't worth it. I think some people don't realize how close wholesale/retail prices are on used vehicles. One poster in this thread said something to the tune of "I'll make double the money selling retail" which might be true on low-priced cars but you're not going to get $20K from a dealer on wholesale and then they turn around and sell it for $40K retail.
I'm generally 50/50 on whether I trade or sell. Just depends on how much extra I can make and then I judge if it's worth the hassle or not.
Also, I would only accept wire transfers for payment. Things like this happen all the time now:
