I once was interested in purchasing a used Ford Ranger. From the original owner.
That lady stated that she purchased it brand new from the Ford dealer and that she had proof and documentation.
Yet the carfax showed that the car had been originally titled in Brazil.
The Ford dealership told her when she purchased new that yes, the truck had been on a ship heading for Brazil but that the ship had turned back.
Possible? Maybe.
But I just ran as fast as I could away from this story and this truck.

Ain't nothing for free...it is rolled into the price premium you pay for buying at a dealer.

If you are looking at a Toyota you can create a login here and plug in the VIN. You may or may not get a lot of info on the car.

I used Carfax several times and boy, how much did I spend on those reports.
Currently, I ask seller to provide a vehicle report on his own costs, or I use vincarhistory.org
