He was extremely close to hitting that telephone pole. I thought he was gonna hit it. That could have easily killed him. I only could imagine what the other drivers thought what was going on. If I saw that, I would assume he'd be drunk. It sucks that it happened but I couldn't even imagine what would happen if it was on a busy highway and not in the middle of nowhere.
I've seen it happen before. In the case I saw, idiot was driving with a known seizure disorder against medical advice and state law, and crashed through the fence after crossing a 2 lane highway through oncoming traffic, at a place I used to work. People are stupid. Some people are lucky. Some people are not lucky. Some are a combo of all 3 or any thereof.
I don't want to hijack this thread to another topic, but just wanted to point out:
This is a perfect case of where some level of semi-autonomous car driving capability would minimize the accident, and probably reduce (if not eliminate) the chances of hurting someone else).
I don't see self-driving cars taking over for the average driver, but adding automation for crash-proofing is nearly a certainty as it gets better and cheaper. (Insurance companies may even provide the extra cost).
