I purchased a vehicle and immediately after purchasing there was soo many things wrong with it. I called the dealership right away and the salesperson as well as the service manager made it clear that i could not change it because i had already signed the contract and given a $2000.00 deposit. Well Long story short my loan did not go through, voiding the contract and i returned the car. Upon arrival the Finance manager started screaming at me saying that i was not getting out of this that if i left the car there she was going to tow it to my house, i explained that i was not approved. She said o yes you are, she continued screaming at me while she was calling the financing bank. I walked away and found the General manager and explained to him what had just happened. She storms in and slammed the keys on the desk and says i guess she got away. The general manager said he was going to find out everything about my deposit and to call him back the next day. I called him several times and left messages and no answer. How long do they have legally to return my deposit back??

I would give it 2 weeks and if they haven't refunded by then, I would have a lawyer draw up a demand letter and send it to them. That will normally work, but if it doesn't you'll need to sue them in Small Claims Court.

Why didn't you have the car checked out by a third party BEFORE you agreed to buy it?

Go there, demand they give you your deposit back, if they don't call the police.

If that does not work, tell them you are going to stand out front with a picket sign and call the TV news! If they are stupid enough to allow that, be careful what you say on the sign, just state a fact - like "Will not give me my deposit back!"

Also may want to call your state government attorney general's office.

There are things called bailment agreements, some states differ, so I don't know if you signed one or not. But you may have to go to court with them over the money. If during the time you thought the car was yours you put a bunch of miles on it or damaged it then they can use your "deposit" to cover those damages.
