Back in the 1980s it was easy to pay $5,000 for a good used car.
I took photos of my previous car's odometer going to 100,000 miles but it didn't go to all zeros.

If I had Edd China's arm length gloves, I'd use them as leggings.
My grandparents had a rambler wagin, I had a 1964 dodge Polara with push button automatic and hubcaps, had a 1974 pinto my first brand new car with hubcaps abd I put a am/fm 8 track player I could slide the whole unit in and out so it would not get stolen. I have had plenty of cars with hubcaps and they all were made of metal. On my 1964 dodge it had the 2 prong ballast resistor always had to keep a few on hand if the blew could not start car.

Started a car with a hand crank?
A very old Farmall tractor with widowmaker front wheels.
Actually repaired a punctured inner tube?
Yes.
Bought and used a round headlight?
Too many to count.
Driven a Checker cab?
A Checker sedan, not a cab. There was a Checker dealer where I grew up.
Improvised a broken fan belt with a nylon stocking?
No.
Owned a DeSoto?
No.
Ridden in a Plymouth Cranbrook?
No.
Used raw eggs to plug a leaking radiator?
No.
Owned an American Motors Rambler?
My grandparents owned one as did a couple friends so I've driven them.
Sat in a Studebaker?
Yes. And driven it.
Bought a pair of Edd China's arm length rubber work gloves?
No. We had shoulder length gloves to help with calving, I don't know who made them.
Ordered a car and bought the optional heater?
No.
Let your friend get out and help push your Renault Dauphine up a steep hill?
What is a Dauphine?
Adjust your carburetor at least once a month?
Once a month? No. Adjusted carbs? Yes.
Had your new car rust proofed with Ziebart?
No. But it was a thriving business for quite a number of years.
Caulked a leaking windshield?
No.
Bought a car with hub caps?
Several. Most recent was a 1998 Taurus. Wait, both my F150s (2003 and 2014) have hubcaps. Full size ones covering the entire wheel are called wheel covers.
Paid less than five grand for a good used car?
Mrs. NBP did, a Mustang and a few years later an Impala.
Watch your car turn a hundred thousand miles and cheered when the odometer turned all zeros again.
Cheered? No.
Anybody?

Answers in bold.

Op, surprised at the responses?

I hand cranked a Hillman (little English car) that had a flat battery after sitting 3 months while I was on a slow ship going to Greece and back.

I avoided all contact with Renaults. (Dauphine, etc)

Rode in a Checker taxi which must have had a zillion miles on it.

Defrosters became federal requirement in 1968. Defrosters required a heater to function. That is when they became standard equipment.

Owned an english Riley car with right hand drive.

Bought and used a round headlight? Why yes. My first car was a '69 VW Beetle.
Improvised a broken fan belt with a nylon stocking? Not quite. The aforementioned VW never lost a belt.
Adjust your carburetor at least once a month? Daily, really, with the VW and the '93 Isuzu Pickup that came next. Yes, a truck that "new" still came with a factory carb. God Bless fuel injectors.
Caulked a leaking windshield? FWIW, the previous owners of my '03 F150 did. Bad job, too, as I had to run teh defroster often to fight the incoming humidity.
Paid less than five grand for a good used car? Yup. Got a '94 Ranger SCab for $3000.
Watch your car turn a hundred thousand miles and cheered when the odometer turned all zeros again. Sorry. The VW spent half the time I owned it undrivable.
Anybody?
See above.
