Do you get offended by a car horn? I never understood why people get so offended over a horn. Though some people can be very arrogant and use it the wrong way; so being mad makes sense but even if it's justified it seems like people get mad over it. It's kind of a weird observation since most people are jerks behind the wheel because people don't see cars being operated by a living person, they see it as a "thing" in their way. It just seems like people want authority and power when they drive. With windows and doors dividing us from either, there's nothing that you would not say to the other driver. Anything else you'd like to add?

Depends on how it's used.

If I was about to run into someone.. no.. I wouldn't be offended. Or if I was sitting at a red light that turned green and wasn't going.

If we're sitting in traffic not moving and someone is blowing their horn.. They're an idiot. Don't think i'd be offended by it, but it would annoy me.

I think people, for the most part, get offended with a car horn because if you use it you're saying something is their fault or watch out, but likely they weren't paying attention and immediately think you're a jerk for using it or they don't care and just give you the bird when you use your horn. I personally think it's not used enough although sometimes you can tell it's just not worth it. Visit another area of the world and you'll use/take horn use differently. I use mine a lot more after visiting outside mainland US.

Well, there are many ways to honk that horn, right? Gentle tap to wake up someone ivolved with his cell, when red turns green, is one thing. ROARRRRRR at someone is different. Also, sometimes you have no choice say - when 18 wheeler decides to change lane right into you.
OP, to your question. Getting offended is personal choice. It's choice of response. For the last 4 years, commuting at least 1 hr one way to work, I learned not to be offended with many things other drivers do.

I can't think of any reason to hold the button down for more than a half a second. The purpose of the horn is to get attention, and a half a second is enough to get the attention of anyone except a sponge.

No, I just ignore it when people honk at me......makes me feel good that they are getting butthurt. Guess what, in a hurry, go around me.......mad because I am not taking a free-right on a red, too bad.

I just laugh at them.
It is difficult to shoot at somebody when you are laughing at them.
IMO, they did not "offend" me. I ALLOWED myself to be offended. I refuse to do that anymore. It just isn't worth it!

I have bad luck, every car I ever had was cursed with a puny horn that barely attracted any attention at all. I could honk when the light was green but the person in front of me wasn't moving and they couldn't hear it. But then I got an actual train horn setup with a 75 pound compressed air cylinder and had to use it once and set off many car alarms in an adjacent parking lot.

Now I just rev my 400HP engine with catback exhaust instead of using a horn.

Always thought there should also be a horn in the rear of the car. To be used on people behind you!

Personally, I don't but to some people in some areas (like Hawaii) using the horn produces the the same reaction as giving someone the middle finger.

I try to flash my lights before using my horn but sometimes the horn is necessary.
