There are a million reasons why traffic might come to a stop on a freeway, its not always just ducks, turtles, squirrels, sometimes it is even humans. As a driver it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to maintain enough distance from the car in front of you to stop safely. None of you are so important that you have the right to kill anything in your way just because you are in a hurry. People wonder what is wrong with this country, just read back thru the pages of this thread and it becomes quite clear, most of you have no soul.
no ducks are so important that clowns stopping for them have a right to possibly kill other people.
i always try and maintain a safe distance. i say try because sometimes someone cuts you off and now you're right behind them for a bit.
even if i'm at a safe distance it's possible some idiot is tailgating me.
im not getting slammed into for some ducks.
maybe you think ducks are that important because you have an intellect similar to their's.
Why did you omit kitty cats? Because they're not wildlife? Are cows and horses wildlife? Is that what this thread really is? Bigotry against kitty cats? Is it against all kitty cats, or just black ones? Is it racism or catism?
I saw a black kitty cat, barely past the kitten stage, but not yet an adult cat, on a busy 4-lane city road. It was trying to cross, but got its paw caught under a tire before the driver could stop. He backed up a little to let the cat free. But the cat was in so much pain, and so confused, and in such a panic, that it didn't see that it should take the opportunity to get out of the way of the tire. Maybe it was so crippled it was hard to walk in the right direction. But it ended up a short distance farther from the tire, but still in its path. The driver thought the cat got out of the way, and drove on, right over the cat. Then the cars behind did the same thing. It was a gory mess.
You're never going to convince me to run over a creature like that. If you and I end up dead, but the cat lives, who is to say it's really more of a tragedy than what happened to the above cat?

The point that seems to keep sailing over your head like a Frisbee is that it is not about how much of a hurry I am in - it's about the fact that if I stop my car in the middle of a freeway to avoid hitting some ducks, I am putting myself at risk of getting hit from behind by someone else who is traveling at 80 MPH or more. Which is a risk I am not stupid enough to take.
Thats an absurd attitude that could cost you your life..
Ya, that will get their posterior shot too. If they are brake checking on the freeway they better be willing and able to back it up when they follow them.
Semis should be driving more carefully and defensively than anyone. Whether the car in front of it comes to an abrupt stop due to ducks in the road or a driver's heart attack, big rig drivers go through more training for a reason.

How about weekend warriors with 30 foot travel trailers and half ton trucks? Braking for an animal in high speed traffic is attempted suicide/homicide.

Training or not. There is no way to stop 80,000lb quickly when traveling at speed
