I'm fully capable of changing my own oil and doing lots of my own repairs but when it comes to oil changes, I no longer want to deal with the mess or the disposing of the used oil so I go to a speedy lube and pay around $36 for the change. They check stuff and fill my windshield reservoir and it feels like an ok deal to me.
What bothers me is they pull out my cabin filter and my air filter to show me how dirty they are and when I decline the replacement, they carefully put the filters back without even bothering to shake some of the debris loose.
Afterwards, I drove straight to autozone and changed the filters myself.
What I don't like is they always forget to reconnect some hose in my Highlander, and my check engine light comes on, and I have to go back. I mean EVERY time. I shouldn't need to tell them.

Just curious.. what hose are they disconnecting to change your oil? Oil Filter, Drain Plug, Dip Stick. That's all that should be touched. (unless the Highlander has some funky way needed to change the oil)
Atleast they put your filters back. A shop once brought out of my cabin air filter saying it needed to be replaced for $60. I declined and when I went to change it on my own a few months later, there wasn't even a filter there. Guess they got upset that I said no and threw it away out of spite.

Yes, I think its a fluke with the Highlander. That's why it keeps happening. It is some kind of air intake hose, but that's all I can tell you.

I change it myself on 2 cars, the 3rd is still on warranty and I take it to the Ford dealer where they still only charge $29.95 and check/top up all other fluids and tire air, and wash it.
My pet peeve about quick lube places, don't have any, change my own oil.
These places shouldn't be allowed to operate because they have been know to use bulk oil, meaning who knows what weight or type it is.
Many don't remove the oil plug, instead they remove it through the dipstick and they love to sell that extra c**p that you don't need plus many use house filters, meaning they use the cheapest oil filter around.

That also happened to me once. The attendant said that we recommend a new cabin filter because yours is missing...
I do all my own maintenance and repairs other than tire mounting. It's a hobby of mine enough so that the garage was the first thing I look at when house hunting.
