I have a few questions in regard to purchasing a high mileage Mustang. I came upon a well priced ($5,000) 2007 Mustang GT with 180k miles, very well maintained by the owner. Here's my question, is it worth buying with that high of a mileage? What type of lifespan should out of it?
I can guarantee you one of two things but maybe both....its been revved to the moon more then a few times and driven on long trips...I personally wouldn't buy it with that many miles. Production high performance vehicle engines don't have the same internals a custom built performance engine does. I would have trust issues with the engine and drivetrain. Just my $.02...

It's a 4.6L engine. The internals are the same in every mass produced taxi and police car on the road. You know how many of those are well over 200K and still going?
Honestly, the engine and transmission would be the least of my worries. My concern is how well a 180K mile car was maintained. Odds are those are all highway miles, but have the fluids been changed? How are the shocks? Brakes been done?
With 180K miles, I wouldn't buy it for fear of it being well worn, but if this was going to be a project Mustang where i'd rip half the suspension out, install aftermarket brakes and rebuild the motor with custom goodies, I probably wouldn't hesitate if the body and interior are in great condition.
This really all depends on what you plan on doing with the car. Daily driver? pass
Is the owner a grown, working man, or some college kid freshly out of undergrad school?
Is it manual?
