If VW recalls the rigged cars to fix them, wont they fail state smog tests once fixed? How will people be able to keep tags for them if they can't pass the smog test? Or will they have to totally rebuild the engine to pass emissions testing? Seems expensive.
They will pass the smog tests after the software is reflashed, but they will feel grossly underpowered and rough compared to before. And if an owner keeps it as-is so that it will cheat on the smog test, guess what, it will pass and there's nothing anyone can do about it.
Seriously? It was headline news for all of two days!
Either way it was a big story and an important one; a corporate conspiracy to evade the laws of both Europe and the U.S. by rigging the tests of 11 million cars. That ain't the stuff of man bites dog I don't know what is.
Volkswagen diesels are popular swaps into older Toyota trucks. I've stated numerous times on this forum that I will gladly take one of these VWs from an owner who feels to guilty to drive it any longer
As I posted some where else. All the people I know could careless about the problem they love the fuel mileage too much.
They can love them all they want but if they don’t pass inspection they are dead weights. And who knows what is going on in the Audi/Porsche line up.
