It is a hundred dollar repair ..there is part of the exhaust cover is ripped. They said they can patch it but I would have to bring it back out to get fixed right. I was going to buy and They asked me to sign a paper saying that they will need to fix it. Should I just hold off on buying until it is fixed?

Yes hold off. Until someone fixes it otherwise it will be your responsibility. It's your call.

Part of the exhaust cover? That seems like a minor thing. If you want the car otherwise, have it fixed. It's not going to negatively affect drivability or value at all and not something to worry about once fixed.

They want to process the paperwork today and asked if I would bring the car back. I live over an hour away so it is an inconvenience. I told them I had to go to the bank and would be right back. Debating whether to go back

Oooooh. Okay. Well, so long as it's patched good, I'd go for it if you really want the car.

No. You sign nothing. They fix it, you sign. Tell them you willing to place a $100 deposit but that's it. No signing papers. They are simply pressing you into purchase.
I think, it's called heat shield. You know why heat shield is called heat shield and why it's there?

It doesn't need to be fixed at all. Find a new shop to take cars to, they are just trying to rip you off.
