I like the new Tucson, but I'm a bit skeptical of the new 7-speed DCT in the higher end model. I'd stick with the base 2.0 engine with 6 speed automatic.
I would go with the Forester. It will have better resale value and to me is just a better vehicle. As a Subaru Owner my self, I can say they're good cars.
I'll say Hyundai makes a nice car, I own one as a commuter, but a Hyundai is something you have to buy new. The forester is a better used car but if buying new I'd go Tucson
Yes I do own a 2007 Hyundai Sonata but am thinking about the Forester. Hyundai has a better warranty but I heard the suburu is a great car which suppose to last a long time.
We have a '10 Tuck Ltd for my CEO...it has been a good to OK car; she likes it, so 'we like it'.
The newer Tucsons seem to have improved the sound insulation, and maybe the interior materials quality. Short stints in new models haven't sold me yet.
I would pass on the 7 DCT trans too. I would also pass on the AWD Tuck unless you are doing serious winter driving.
Our SIL is the IT Mgr at Subaru North America in Cherry Hill, NJ so I get to drive his new every three month 'company car' on occasion. I like the Forester and am trying to like it more, if that makes sense, as my CEO is Jonesing to replace her 5 1/2 yr old Tuck Ltd.
It also is AWD, which Subie has seemingly made more fuel efficient for an AWD car, if mpg is a key factor.
The Forester looks 'less good' to me than the Tuck, but that is purely subjective...
Both good cars, imo; I would cross shop diligently, drive both species as much as the dealers will allow and see what fits for you. I would not dismiss either car out of hand.
