Depends if it's a car or a truck. I think an Accord and a Civic would be more fun to drive than a Camry or Corolla. As trucks I prefer the Tacoma with a V6 and 4-wheel drive than the so-called truck the Ridgeline. As SUVs I rather have a 4Runner than a Pilot because of its off-road capabilities.
All brands have their issues from time to time the way they are thrown together. Its a crap shoot. Had 2 Toyota 4x4 pickups. One for 10 years another for 12 years.

I have owned several older Toyotas and only one with 250k miles ever needed more than routine maintenance. I currently drive a 2005 Camry with 130k, never had one problem
I had a Toyota in the early 1990s and it was a fine car I loved it,I still miss it, but I have become afraid of the Toyota brand. The stories of the brake and pedal problems and unexplained acceleration of their vehicles that have caused more deaths than any other known car issue has me afraid to touch one. The problems started to become known in 2000 with complaints from consumers and it took them until 2009 to try to fix the problem. Many say it is still not fixed. And yet their used cars are promoted and rated well on car review websites. I personally feel afraid to buy them. I even feel afraid to buy twin cars like the Pontiac Vibe that are supposed to be a Toyota on the inside.
Why is this the only company that's had this issue? I had thought maybe it was a glitch in the fancy new computer technology that cars today are using but Toyota seems to be the only car manufacturer hit with the problem.
Toyota to me is slipping. They have been one of the finest car companies ever created and yet now seem unable to deal with this serious problem with their cars. Either they do not know what caused the unintended acceleration or they do know and will not admit it.
My car recently broke down and I must decide if I should fix it or get another one and in searching out used cars I find myself afraid of purchasing anything made by Toyota.Does Toyota still deserve its reputation as a great car maker ?
Toyota is always the lesser of all automotive evils, period. Their quality is better and is proven so and over and over and over again. They are in the top 2 spots in 2015 build quality this year. Lexus and Toyota. Overall there is no better built car.
Perfect? No. No builder is. However, compared to say GM, Ford, Chrysler, VW, BMW (the check engine lights are legendary), Fiat, Kia and Hyundai? There is no contest and those last two have come a long, longway....and yet, they still aren't quite as good. Honda is a close second. They just suffer from iffy transmissions and weaker AC.
My experiences with Toyota are great. My wife drives an '03 Camry with 180K and no problems, I bought one of my Mom's Camrys (2000) with 225K and no major problems. My mother daily drives a 2001 Camry (V6 XLE) with over 250K on it, no major issues besides needing some suspension work. I believe the starter and alternator on that one are original. Knew a guy at work who, I believe, still drives a '96 Camry that had 370K on it last I checked.
When I was working on one of the construction sites for my job, one of the inspectors had a mid-90s Tacoma with 410K on it that he was driving 80 miles one way to the site. Yes, some Toyotas have problems. All manufacturers will produce some bad eggs. But overall, I'd say Toyota is one of the best auto makers in the world.
It depends on the model. Pretty much all of them are very dependable. I really like their SUVs and Trucks, they're durable and well made.
Lexus is a mixed bag. I want to like the LX and GX but both have stupid tailgates that are not liftagates. I almost bought a new GX a couple years back, it checked every box for me, but I just couldn't live with that stupid side-hinged tailgate.
