I so so loved driving stick..whether it was 4/5/ or 3 on the "Tree"...My brother taught me back in the early ''60's and ever since then loved the sense of control of the vehicle.....

Unfortunately..when got older..and arthritis took over..my clutch leg ( knee) could NOT maintain clutch dis=engagement of drive...the leg would goo into some shake mode..which caused a lot of problems....So had to transition to automatic...

LOL..My left foot kept stomping the floor for years...kinda reminded me just how accustomed we all become... Boy I could list a whole slew of vehicles..I truly enjoyed driving..from Sunbeam Tiger thru Boss 302's..to Shelby Mustangs...

But I do have to say..Driving those V-12 Jaguar XKE was like a G-force I never have experienced before...even the Shelby Mustang 454 didn't pin my head and body back like that!!

Long and short..I miss the fact physically I can't drive a stick anymore..as I sure did feel in more control when driving..especially during poor driving conditions..as in slippery roads, or ice storms..shifting into neutral and out just wasn't the same!! Loved my CLUTCH!!

A bit off topic but could you please explain that? A Shelby 454?

there was a time after i got out of the hospital in 2007 when my left leg would not work properly, and i could not physically use the clutch. which meant that i had to give up my 66 falcon for a car with an automatic. it took three years before my left leg started working properly again, since then however i have not had the funds to replace my car with one that has a manual transmission.

Doesn't exist... perhaps he meant a 452, which is the stroked version of a 427...

My daily driver is a Mustang GT with a Hurst Shifter kit.

Shifting and doing what you want with the car's RPMs is so pleasing.

So sorry..I must have been tired..Meant Shelby GT500 ..Also had a GT350 in our corral back in the '80's ..Boss 302 along with the Sunbeam Tiger

I somehow got the Big Block- Chevy 454 stuck in my mind last night..LOL All those number's swirling around..blame it on my "sometimer's disease"

Back in those days..they only produced 4 speeds..except for the 3 on the tree Ford Fairlane 289 ('63 or '64) 4 door (ugly copper colour)..

You can see we were Ford minded folks ..

I just bought a Tacoma with stick, it took me over six months to find one, and had to go to Atlanta to get it, 500 miles. I like the feel of the direct hookup with the engine over the hydraulic feel of an automatic

I was thinking the same thing. I've had 3 manual transmission cars that I've sold at over 140K miles and the original clutch was nowhere near needing replacement.

I learned to drive a stick in high school way back in the day. 3 speed on the column. I've had stick shift cars ever since. Except for a short while when money was tight and had to take what we could afford. I am back to stick with my mid life crisis car,2003 red mitsu eclipse gt 5 speed. It will make me sad if manual trans disappears. Little old lady from Pasadena!
