Some people celebrate on New Year's Eve, some on their Birthday's, but for me, the big celebration comes with my 1985 Toyota Supra passing the Smog Test every year. Last year, it failed, so I had to drive it somewhere to have it fixed so it'll pass ($$$) and then yor return to the Testing site, holding your breath, it'll pass a 2nd time, and if not? Well, let's put it this way, in that case, it's best to keep your gun at home!

I almost jumped through my moon roof when I was told it passed!

Where else in the country do people have to go through this every year, besides CA and NV. And do you stress out every year when you have to endure it?

When I was in Las Vegas, unlike AZ, they have independent smog testers, and I'd rather deal with them than one run by the state. I know some in Las Vegas who bribed these testers with a $50 bill. I didn't bribe them, a few times, I just said: I'm so happy when my car passes the smog test, I throw the tester $50! And that wasn't meant as a bribe but a show of happiness and celebration.

Newer cars don't struggle, but yours is 34 years old. Be happy that is still driving

We do in NC, at least in the county where I live, not absolutely sure about the rest of the state. The inspectors are independent. I doubt it's possible to bribe your way through, the machine hooks up to the OBD port on the car, reads the VIN and reports directly to a computer somewhere in Raleigh.

You referring to emissions testing? We have it in MD. It's every two years. But older vehicles and those registered as Historic are exempt.

That 1985 Supra would definitely be exempt in MD.

They still have emission testing around Michigan got rid of it in 1995 it’s just a money maker for the state and inspection stations.

GA but just the metro Atlanta counties that are under EPA bad area.

Smog test excludes the last 3 years of cars though (Model year vehicles 1996 through 2016 will receive an on-board diagnostics (OBD) test for 2019 registration.)

Georgia's Clean Air Force

$13-25 depending on which centers you choose to visit.

Mine are due every other year. In one case I had one that didn’t pass. I replaced the catalytic and passed with flying colors. After that the state considered it a gross polluter so they made me smog it every year. It passed every year after that. I sold it after 19 years of owning it

HOLY CRIPES!! That would annoy the hell out of me.
In MD it's $14 if you go to a manned station and $10 if you use a self-serve kiosk.

Yea - at $5 a year, the bigger issue is just making the time to do it.
