A 25-year-old woman whose car flipped over on Long Island on Sunday emerged from the wreckage relatively unscathed — only to be struck and killed as she later went back to retrieve her property, police said.
Brittany Leith, of North Babylon climbed out from under her vehicle on the Southern State Parkway at Exit 36 at about 3:54 a.m. and made it to the shoulder of the roadway with the help of other motorists, state police said.
But before cops arrived, she returned to her vehicle in the left lane to retrieve property from it when she was hit and killed by another passing motorist.
A state police car then arrived and was later struck from behind by another passing motorist. Police didn’t release details on the state-police car that was struck or if there was an officer inside at the time of that crash.
Driving is a privileged, we have too many incompetent drivers on the roads today. These drivers are often distracted, have poor vision and slow reaction times. No roads are safe, at any moment you can die because of the negligence of another driver.
This woman went back to retrieve her items from her flipped car was struck. No idea how she managed to flip her car in an accident unless you hit the center divider hard.
Another police car at the scene of the accident was also struck.
How in the world can people crash into a park police car.
Anyone want to bet she was looking for her cell phone........
"She" being the person who crashed the car? Possibly, and the person who hit her and hit the police car we're probably looking at theirs.
Also the first rule of racing is look where you want to go. When people rubberneck, their car has a tendency to drift towards the direction that they are looking, which is why cars / police cars getting hit on the side of the road is not an uncommon occurrence.
But after getting to safety, she told the good Samaritans she needed to run back across the busy highway to retrieve her property from inside her car, according to police.
They begged her not to go, to no avail.
As Leith was making her way to her upended car in the left lane, a passing vehicle fatally struck her.

Not exactly the brightest bulb at Lamps Plus.
What is this begging stuff. Why didn't they physically stop her from going?

Had they physically restrained her she would be alive and well enough to sue them for assault.
