looking to buy a 91 MR2 Turbo from Utah but its 49 state emission sticker, not the 50 state one.
Will I have any problems registering it in Cali if it's able to pass smog? can anyone chime in on this?

Based on a quick reading of http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/NonCAVeh/NonCAVeh.pdf , it appears you have no problem, as long as car does pass regular smog check.

Only a new, "49 state" vehicle is banned from CA. "New" being defined as having less than 7,500 miles on odometer, regardless of model year.

If still in doubt, contact the California Air Resources Board (ARB) at (800) 242-4450 to verify.

I just bought a 93 Nissan pickup recently from OR that is a 49 state vehicle. It's never been smogged, as it's not required in OR. I had to put a new catalyitic converter on it and have a new gasket put on the intake manifold. Once that was done, it passed smog. The mechanic did mention that because it was a federal/49 state model, instead of a CA model, the intake manifold gasket was a different size. Other than that, no biggie.

To register a vehicle in CA, it needs to pass smog. That'a all they care about. You need a good title, of course, you'll need to have it weighed maybe (I had to do this for my pickup), but as far as anything else is concerned, if it passes smog, you're good to go.
