I'm looking to purchase another SUV to replace my 2004 Ford Explorer. My Ford has been a nightmare with car repairs. I've had non-stop wheel bearings go out in the 100,000 miles I've owned it (I've changed them 8 times), replaced the transmission, replaced the rear differential, replaced the radiator, etc, etc, etc.
I'd like to buy a dependable SUV. My question is, what year, make, and model would you suggest I look at for a dependable SUV? I am not wanting to buy new.
The Toyota Highlander is also a pretty reliable vehicle, as is the Lexus LX/Toyota Land Cruiser; however, a Highlander will be much more economical to own than the LX/Land Cruiser as fuel economy is not a strong suit of the larger V8 Toyota SUVs.

OP you must be very hard on the SUV since I have the same identical Explorer with 111,000 miles and the only thing I've had to replace are the tires, serpentine belt, spark plugs, battery, you know regular maintenance stuff.

The car has about 200,000 miles now, I purchased it used with 92,000 miles on it.
I don't think I'm hard on a car, and I don't know what I could be doing that is trashing the wheel bearings or caused the transmission or differential to go out. I just drive the car and don't accelerate or decelerate. I change the oil regularly but don't think there is anything that I'm doing that is causing me to experience higher than average repairs.
Nor do I understand what I might be doing that is caused the radiator to develop a leak or any of the other coolant leaks that I have experienced. There isn't much on the driving end of things that a guy can do to cause coolant leaks that I know of.
OP you bought it with 92,000 miles on it, do you know exactly how well it was maintained before you bought it. Was it salvage vehicle, or a flood vehicle before.

I have no idea how it was maintained before I bought it. I bought it from a dealership (private party sales are rare in my state) and they don't keep service records from previous owners.
