For decades, miles per gallon — mpg in its familiar shorthand — has been the only way for consumers to understand how much gasoline is going into their tank, and what it really costs. But mpg isn't cutting it any more.

it's kind of a dumb idea, given that the cost of fuel fluctuates daily.

speaking of dumb ideas, from the article:

awesome you flippin idiots, in this day and age even honda's new model gets 3mpg less than the old car. efficient, lol, how's that efficient?

Heck, my little old VW bug gets me 30 mpg with city and fwy driving. Fwy by itself gets me a round 36 mpg from LA to SD calif. Stefhen
