"On Friday, January 29, 2016, American Honda notified NHTSA of a stop sale and safety recall for approximately 34,000 2016 Civic vehicles due to potentially missing or misset piston pin snap rings that may cause engine stall or failure."
If I had one of those cars, I'd be reading up on the lemon law in my state because that could possibly come into play. 'Replacement parts are not currently available' does not inspire confidence in the repair process or how long it could take and in my state, I believe there are limits to how much time a car can spend in the shop in the first year before the manufacturer has to offer to take it back or swap it out.
There is a cumulative 30 days in the shop standard regardless of the number of attempted repairs in Florida. When our Passat's fuel pump went out in year 1 of ownership, we got a 'sorry, we have no fuel pumps available in North America' message for the first three weeks, then on day 28, the VW mothership literally had the dealership pull the fuel pump out of a matching new car for sale the dealer had on their lot and put it into our car in order to not hit the 30 day threshold. (At least that's the explanation the dealer gave us.)
Too bad someone was paying attention to that. While we never had further problems with that part, the car was a dog in so many other ways and looking back, having it declared a lemon would have been one of the best things that could have happened with it.
