Projection headlights (I think that is what they are called) appear to have a very narrow beam of light. That means when a car behind me has projection headlights, and they go over little bumps, the intensity of the light changes as the beam goes up and down, and makes it appear like they are flashing their headlights because I'm going to slow.
I hate them. I find them to be a distraction because I don't like flashing lights behind me.
I think you are thinking of HID's in particular. I find them more of an annoyance from oncoming traffic. My car has an auto dimming rear mirror however, and since it is always working in the background maybe I just do not notice the sudden intensity changes behind me.
I posts about this awhile ago that DMVs should start inspecting headlights as part of the inspections. Too many people have headlights that don't point correctly. I often see someone with headlights pointed at on coming traffic which is either incorrect bulb install or wrong headlight assembly. This should all be part of the inspections. Since traffic accidents are spiking, the DOT need to crack down on this. Someone could be blinded by HIDs and didn't see some road hazards.

All of these super bright lights on modern car seem to be dangerous to other drivers.
This includes the crazy LED lights on some law enforcement vehicles, way over kill.
I drive 800 miles a week , including nights, it is blinding in many cases.
Wife's car has these lights and we get the occasional bright flash from oncoming cars. I just flash them right back.
I tested the lights by driving towards my wife in my car, also standing out in front of her and the lights do not come anywhere close to pointing too high. They are brighter than older cars but aren't adjusted improperly at all.

The ones that I'm talking about are not excessively bright. It is that they have a narrow beam angle and the slightest bump causes the beam to go up and down and make it look like the driver behind you is flashing their headlights at you. That drives me nuts.

Yes, I'm glad you feel superior that you flash back with your already annoying headlights. I live in the country, and have to spend much time on the highways. The HID lights have got so bad, that I have gone to a self defense mechanism to people like you.
I wait until you are within car lengths of me. Then, aimed at your windshield, you get a blast from my 2 million candle power spot light.
Invariably I see brake lights flashing momentarily as we pass. You have no courtesy for others, and I repay the compliment. Perhaps if more people repaid your actions, people like you would reconsider the use of HIDs.
And no, I am not normally passive aggressive.
