When getting a quote for a new insurance, do I add that I was in an accident?

During the quote they should be asking if you have any violations on your license. If they don't ask and you don't disclose and they don't run your DMV report, you're getting an inaccurate quote. Happens to me a lot. People call and will actually lie (oh, I forgot about that accident that put the lady I hit in the hospital for a month) or fail to disclose a violation. I give them the quote and they come rushing to the office to write the policy but when the system runs the DMV report and it comes up, the rate obviously is higher, some times significantly, and they get upset with us. Well, disclose what's on your report. Don't give a vague description of your vehicle during a quote; give them the VIN to enter. The more info you give and the more accurate your information, the more accurate your rate will be which will save you time and frustration later on.
FYI with 'accident forgiveness' with a lot of policies, you're basically paying in advance for an increase in a rate due to an accident, whether you have one or not. My son has it on his insurance. He says he'd rather pay now just in case. I don't understand that mentality, but he seems happy with it. *shrug* Personal preference I guess.
Also, check around with a LOT of agencies. You'll get some very wide ranges on rates. Just keep in mind you get what you paid for. The trick is finding a decent rate with a good company.
Good luck!
