I bought my car after it had been sitting outside for the past 12 years with a few infrequent trips to keep the car working.
During that time, the car was never washed and it developed some kind of thick dirt film on the wheels that I can't wash off. Scrubbing doesn't seem to do anything.
Are there any recommended sprays that I could apply and let soak before washing the wheels that are considered effective?
Up here if cars sit long without getting washed, they develop a moss on them, especially if they are in shade the whole time. It can be a b*tch to remove. You could have that, or just a bad case of surface rust. Are they painted? Aluminum? Bare metal?
Can you post a pic?
it looks like a combination or road dirt and brake dust. so there's a layer of black caked on brake dust then something thicker.
My car did have a new brakes installed and the tires were changed within the last 4 years due to bad tire wear from a shoddy repair job (I found a bent control arm and replaced it)
The wheels are aluminum so I don't want to scrub too hard.
also be very careful with some type since some are really strong and can eat through the clear coat/protective sealant on and expose Aluminum Rims to the elements which if not done correctly or you end up with the wrong product
Designed and made in Germany for German cars (although you can use it on any car ) It's just German cars are notorious for brake dust
I've used it and is great for caked on brake dust, dirt, etc...Make sure car wheels are cool. Spray liberally on wheel and let it soak in. Will turn red when it comes in contact with dust/dirt. Scrub caked on areas and rinse off. That's it.
