Folks I am familiar with are HP driven and so move onto quicker vehicls. Saw this among GM pony folk when the new 5.0 came out. Challenger folk as well when the Scat Pack 392 was offered. Moving on from the 5.7 and 6.1.
Others, move the next notch up once the car they can not afford new because available slightly used. Saw this among known GM folk when LS3 C6 Corvettes became reasonable.
Then there is that group, males, who become fathers and move into a hipo four door sedan from their smaller performance vehicle.
Depends on the car and how much I like it.
I've dumped cars within 6 months, sometimes just for a slightly different model, others I've kept for several years, through the warranty and finally got bored enough and switched to a whole different make.
There's no set answer for me.
What's the saying? A luxury once tasted becomes necessity. Variety is the spice of life? I'm never really done shopping for a car. Always reading up on the industry. Hitting up car shows. Going on test drives for fun. In that process one eventually gets under my skin and I end up buying.
Sometimes an accident has been the trigger. Or a desire to go from auto back to a manual. Other times for more power, awd, or better fuel economy. Not really a fixed formula.

Agreed. This is basically my rational, as well. There are too many cars I like to own them all at once, so I own them sequentially, based on my mood at the moment. I still like them, but I want to own something different. And unlike women, they don't get mad at you when you break up with them.
My car is about to become eligible for permanent registration. Why would I want to get rid of it?
As of right now, everything I own (except the car) is permanently registered; the truck, the motorhome, the atvs, the trailers, the boat...
Next year, the car will be, then I will never have to go through the renewal process again!
Buy a newer vehicle? No way, Jose!

Never heard of permanent registration. Either we don't have that here or I never kept a car long enough.
Besides, all i have to do is get on the website and pay the registration fee after having the car inspected.
Is the process in your state different?
