Hertz charges extra for Neverlost, so just don't get a car with it. Book through Hotwire and get a good discount, too. Most rental car companies don't announce that they are rentals, not since the tourists in Florida and other areas were targeted for robberies, save for ZipCar, but tourists don't use them and higher-end Zips don't have any markings.

The barcode isn't always an indicator of a rental, though most have it, as I have a friend who has one for the gate in their condo complex in Florida, if using the alternate residents-only gate that is not manned like the main gates. But, it's not obvious, just an inventory control sticker, it doesn't say Hertz, National, Alamo, etc. Enterprise local sometimes has an "E" on the car that I have noticed, or a license plate rim advocating Enterprise car sales, neither of which I have had from an Enterprise airport location.

If it has little barcode sticker on the windows and/or non-smoking sticker, it's obviously a rental.
