Hello:

I am in need of 4 new tires for my Ford Escape SUV.
Presently I have Continental contact??.. 235/55/r17. These have 50K on them, but they are starting to slide a little in the rain, etc...

I realize there are numerous types of tires, but does anyone have recommendations on good tires to get or bad ones to stay away from??

Thank you!

What's the tread depth on the tires? At 50k, I'd be surprised if your not at the wear bars already, which explains the loss of wet traction.

What are you looking for in a tire? More performance? More comfortable ride?

I personally like Michelin tires. We currently have Conti DWS tires on our SUV, and I've been happy with those.

Here are 2 pictures. I can get a little more use out of them.
I don't go off road or anything like that. Parking on gravel at work is as close as I get to that.
I like a comfortable ride.

MY favorite is Michelin Primacy. Quiet, long lasting and look good. There are cheaper but I always go with this.

From the pics, the tires look like they're pretty much at the wear bar. Sure you can run them some more, but with higher risk of hydroplaning and longer distance for wet braking.

Look for tires in the "Grand Touring All Season" category. The Michelin Primacy the previous poster mentioned is a good choice.
