I just recently bought a Pyramid CDR86DX (removeable faceplate) stereo for my 1990 Toyota SR5 pickup and it is too wide for the plastic trim that is in the truck. I was just wondering if anyone out there has any idea for a better stereo for my truck (aka one that will fit better, but still has a reasonable price) or if i should resort to cutting the plastic trim to accommodate the receiver. I have been looking at Kenwood or Panasonic as a replacement of the Pyramid doesn't work out. If anyone can help me, that would be great. Thanks!

The Circuit City website has a feature where you tell them what year make and model vehicle you have and they will tell you whether each of the radios they sell will fit your car or not. That seems like a good starting point.

Is this a din style radio? (typical size detachable face stereos avaliable)? And if so what size is the existing radio? Is it factory?

Pics would be nice, but on most vehicles you can get an adapter to adap a din style into the factory radio hole opening.

Some vehicles such as the '89 Grand Prix have specially sized radios in which I don't think would allow for this....in this case you could get an underdash pod to accomodate the new radio while the stocker stays in the dash.

Go to Crutchfield: Car Audio, Home Theater, Speakers, LCD TV, Plasma TV They have a complete chart on what fits what. If the stereo is not an exact fit there are adapter plates available that help in some situations.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I went down to a local stereo shop and they told me that the only way to get it to fit was to file down the plastic, so i just bought a new one (Kenwood) and plan on returning the pyramid shortly. The new one is up and running and sounds great.

Blah, Pioneer is the best. Especially if you like to play with ungodly amounts of equalizer functions.

And I second Crutchfield. Not necessarily the cheapest, but the support you get is definitely worth it.

Yeah Pioneer is another good brand. IMO they've gotten better over the years. I still remember 10 years ago they didn't have the EQ controls and the pre amp outputs only had a low .5 volt signal.
