the FRS / BRZ with the aftermarket turbo kit comes pretty close
Aftermarket doesn't count, it's not a factory option so your warranty is voided.
Almost every car make now car atleast 1-2 factory turbo car under $30k except for Toyota. Mazda, VW, Subaru, Ford, and even Honda will have a Turbo Civic soon.

it's weird how some people still believe this after 41 years..... though it was true up until 1975 when the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act became law forbidding dealers and manufacturers from limiting car buyers warranty coverage due to mods

irreverent i suspect since the OP is looking at older cars that are long out of warranty
Magnuson-Moss doesn't apply to adding aftermarket performance enhancing systems to an engine like a turbo or supercharger. The entire purpose of the ACT is that a manufacturer cannot force a comsumer to purchase components or services from them in order to keep the warranty intact. In other words, a manufacturer cannot say you can only have your oil changed here or we will void your engine warranty.
Aftermarket mods are a completely different story, and a manufacturer is well within their right to deny you a warranty claim on your aftermarket turbo kit if you show up with a knocking engine. You can't change our your entire suspension to coil-overs and drop the car and then expect the dealer to warranty you if your CV axles tear up due to the change in suspension geometry. Dealer would have a strong case to deny you here.

I need to buy a car. I have researched quite a bit and I have narrowed it down to either a g35 or a golf or GTI if I can find one in my budget. I have owned a Jetta before and it was a pretty good car, but other than that I've always had Jeeps so I don't know anything about any other brands of cars.
I know they are very different cars, but I'm wondering if one stands out above the others. In my research it looks like the g35 is going to be the better choice. I don't care if it's a manual or a automatic, I just want a reliable car. Anyone here have experience with both cars?
Its oranges to apples. G35 is a luxury car. It offers better comfort, accelaration, cruise, reliability, horsepower but lesser fuel economy and costlier. A 10 year well maintained used G35 with 100k miles is going to cost no less than 6000..
My wife loved her Protege5. Great car all around. Except we owned it in the midwest and Mazdas of that vintage just turn in to rust buckets. Wouldn't be an issue in TX though.
I really like the Protege 5 too. I am not a fan of the Miata, too small for me. I am very seriously considering a speed3.
The ONLY downside to the Protege's of that year was that 5th gear was a lower gear, which meant that at 80mph the engine was turning at 4,000rpms. You can but a taller 5th gear for it or slow your arse down!
Like other's have said most cars that you find used have been run into the ground & it's rare to find one that hasn't. If you can up your budget some you might find a decent one though.
Mazdaspeed 3, or STI wagon. Problem is finding good clean ones.
