Fake story is fake. 50 mph is 73 ft/s. Even assuming you were already traveling at 50 mph the car waiting to make the unprotected left would have enough time to clear the intersection. I might have had to accelerate fast enough to switch out of EV mode in my Prius. Just pure common sense makes the story obviously fake. 800 feet is most of three football fields. When was the last time anyone had a problem making an unprotected left with three football fields of space?
Yeah, when I saw 800 feet, I had my suspicions about the validity of the thread. Even going 50 mph, you're talking about a little over two and half football fields in length - any car could make that turn in plenty of time.
The message is that my behavior behind the wheel is completely normal. Could be a role model for driver's ed to use. It is the other drivers that are the problem.
NEVER floor it as soon as the light turns green. Think about the people coming from both directions running the red light, and you just jumped out there in front of them. I wait a second or so after it changes and look both ways. More than once not going prevented me from getting hit from some ahole running the light. Again never jump out there as soon as it changes to green.
"Flooring it" on a green light is against the law. It's called Excessive Acceleration and you can get a ticket for it.
I just floored it in front of state police. The noise attracted their attention and they slowed down but they didn't do a u-turn to pull around and stop me.
Would have been a different story if I lost traction.

Why don't you just start a thread that the moderators can sticky? Then you can have just one place to post your daily announcements of how many times you revved your engine and how many police cars you saw that day.

If he sees the cops that often it might mean that they are keeping their eyes on him.
Drive as if everyone else is an idiot who doesn't know how to drive.
Driving at normal speeds doesn't require a great deal of skill, so that's probably a tad contemptuous. I'd say drive as if everyone else is eating a burger, texting and reading a newspaper at the same time. Don't assume other drivers are paying attention.
