Has anyone ever thought to do a study on the number and cause of accidents in which the driver is almost fully reclined? At one time there were few road side hotels and motels and so some people would pull over, recline the seats, and sleep in their car. Heck, some cars like the Rambler had the front bench fold flat to make a bed as a feature. How many today sleep in their car's driver seat? Should car makers set a limit on how far a driver's seat can recline? I've sat in a car in which the driver had his seat reclined and from his seat I was unable to get a good view of the road ahead (barely the top of the cars), on the side, and forget about seeing what's behind. It was comfortable, but not safe. While a reclined passenger seat is not safe for the passenger when in a wreck (slide under seatbelt), it poses no danger to operating the vehicle. But a reclined driver is a danger to other people on and off the road.
I see a lot of drivers (usually men) who are basically driving in the BarcaLounger position. I can't drive like that. It's so uncomfortable. Besides it's unsafe and you look like a d-bag
Um, if your pulled over somewhere sleeping, does it really matter if you can see the hood or not? Now if it matters, then one must be driving while reclined which basically means he is and looks like an idiot and needs to pull off the road before he kills somebody!
I've got a friend that reclines more than most would find comfortable, but he likes to be back from the mirror and close to the pedals so he can fully depress them.
No where near your extreme though, I've sat in the seat and still am able to see quite well, but most would view him as reclining somewhat. So where's the line?

I might not buy a car that didn't recline fully, as is I didn't want a car w/power seats as I like to be able to drop my seat when parked to get to the kids, couldn't do that with reclining seat limits.
If some one is driving and feels the need of a nap i'd rather them pull over and take that nap than fall asleep at the wheel at speed, i'm not getting why a reclining seat makes any difference in the drivers nap.

Explain, in this "study" of yours, how you would attribute the cause of an accident to a reclined seat.
