Any takers on what model year these things start becoming obsolete and what replaces it? Ugly fad in my opinion, just saw a new honda civic on the road with it, looks groce.
Fads come and go. It's hard to predict when they will stop being used, but I suspect they will lose their appeal when they start burning out and leaving gaps in the strip. Who wants to deal with that?

Aren't LEDs suppose to last for a long time? I have no problem with regular lights for DRLs, these strips of light scream tacky even on higher end cars to me. Maybe Im just an old school guy I dunno but these cars dont look "futuristic" to me.
Yes, they are. I don't know if running them in a car, with the vibration and other environmental conditions, will make a difference. At my office we have a few that flicker and should be replaced.
Come to think of it, though, I don't recall seeing any with gaps.
High quality LED's do. The problem is the other components, capacitors, resistors, etc that go onto the board where the LED lights are are usually made by the lowest bidder. Source cheap parts, and you get failures.
