German cars all have mfg specific codes in addition to ODB2. That's why there are different ODB2 tools for those car makes. One other reason I avoid VW, MB, BMW, etc they all have a myriad of electronic sensors and issues.

But with a good software, one can look at all the previous fault codes on the car (unless the seller has access such software and clear it themselves).


Ditto on electronic sensors with some of these vehicles.
