There are limitations. In Alaska, going more than 20 mph over the limit is a misdemeanor, so you could be arrested. But most officers just write a ticket or give you a summons. Going 175 mph would lead to other charges beside the speeding ticket, such as reckless driving, reckless endangerment, etc.
