I don't know anything about cars. looking to move from NYC to Kansas City, MO.
lets say a used car (Toyota Camry) with 100k miles on it. and drive 25 miles a day.
if car is payed off, how much everything costs in a year, gas etc,
someone said $5k/per year to maintain a car? i still don't know which ballpark is right.

thank you all

I f my car cost $5K a year to maintain it, I would get another car. My only costs are gas, insurance, and oil change with tire rotation once a year.

You can figure out what it might cost you but never what it will cost you.

25 miles per day and the car gets about 30mpg.

((365*25)/30) *2.50 = $760 in gas

$1K for insurance, perhaps another $150 for oil changes, $100 for your license and registration.... these are all high numbers.

The rest depends but it might come out to another $500+ assuming no major mechanical work like a transmission or engine.

A Camry will not cost $5k per year, but an aged S-Class Mercedes could approach that figure, owing to the number of repairs and associated costs. It's a relative figure, but something like an Accord, Camry, Civic, or Corolla will not cost a fortune to maintain. Even some premium vehicles, such as a Lexus ES, will not cost too much to maintain, assuming no major repairs. If you're looking for a V6 Camry, I might look at a comparable Lexus ES, as the transmission supplier was different, since the Lexus was from Japan, and some of the V6 Camry vehicles in the US had premature transmission failures. You will have a lot of preventive maintenance to be completed around 100k, so be sure to change fluids, belts, hoses, etc., using the aggressive maintenance schedule for city use, as highway use is much less taxing on the vehicle.

You're also not going to be able to Afford one of those contraptions if you're asking about yearly maintenance costs.

Stop being a shill, it has no benefit for anyone and actively damages all reputations. There is Zero benefit to it.

It all depends. The good thing is that the Camry is generally a reliable vehicle that is inexpensive to maintain. So long as you keep up with scheduled/preventive maintenance, it should cost you very little to keep running. No way should it cost you anywhere near 5k/year to maintain.

At 100k miles you should be looking to change your timing belt and water pump if it hasn't already been done. That is probably the most expensive job you're going to have to endure for quite a while unless you suffer some sort of engine or transmission failure. A timing belt/water pump job should run you around $400 from a reputable shop. Aside from that, make sure your tires are in good shape and you stay up to date with your fluid changes.

+1 you will have things every several years; tires, coolant flush, waterpumps, suspension replacement parts, and other general upkeep maintenance you will have to do, but as long nothing major breaks, or theres no unforeseen circumstances, this is a pretty good estimate.

Youre a lot closer to $1200-1500 just to have It legally sit there, and another $500-$1000 on average to keep it running well.
