I'm looking to buy a van, for the purposes of carrying my band's equipment to gigs in. I decided to go with an old conversion van, since they're cheap, I like the high top, and I can easily remove the unnecessary stuff like the bed and tv. But that brings me to my dilemma. Ford or Chevy? I've already ruled out dodge, so I'm torn between the classic 2 American car companies. I'm leaning towards Chevy, but a lot of people are telling me to go Ford. From what I've seen, Chevy vans have more room in the interior, but Ford vans are supposedly tougher and last longer. I'm not sure which one would be the better option, so if any of you have any experience with both vans, please let me know your opinion.

Personally I don't like the Fords twin I beam suspension, not sure if they still used them.

i prefer fords, they are tough, and easier to service than the chevy. in the end however they are both good vans and both will serve you well given proper maintenance.

wow, my family has been buying and using vans in our business since the vw vans were introduced to the market. we even tried them for a short while, that air cooled rear engine just didn't get enough air to survive the rigors of the delivery industry.

anyway, back on topic, we have been using chevys for the last decade or so for small to medium stuff and they are really bullet proof. easy to find parts and any shop or shade tree can work on it. another plus, they are great to drive!

Chevy / GMC safari mini van is robust. I prefer Dodge for older, but would chose Chevy over Ford for ease of maint and reliability.

Personal preference and many Ford tranny failures.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. And just to clear something up, we're talking about older vans. As in mid to late 90s.

Flip a coin. Both are durable vehicles. There are probably more Fords than Chevys to choose from. Don't forget to include GMC in your search.
