Is it just me or do you guys always see a GM car or truck with a headlight or taillight burnt out? Just this morning I saw several cars with one taillight out and sure enough they were GM vehicles. (Impala, Verano and Tahoe).
On the front end, I'd agree.. but, it's generally not a headlight, it's one of the DRLs, which on many GM vehicles doubles as the turn signal light.
Why they're always out, I'm not sure.. Because you get a fast turn signal light/click in the vehicle when one is out.. So, you'd think they'd get replaced fairly quickly.
Yes, it's DRL. Was plague on my Silverado. I kept changing them every few months. Fortunately, very easy to pull assembly out and replace bulb. Why? Have no idea but I do see many of them trucks with one eye out.
I have an '05 Colorado.. I've replaced the DRLs once each.. Headlights once each.. Taillights twice each. That's.. In 11 years.. 206k miles. Doesn't seem overly outrageous.
But.. I agree with you.. The frequency that I see them out on Silverados and the like does make you think something is up.
I was going to replace the brake lights this past time with the LED replacements.. But.. Then I thought whether I should spend $4 for a pack of bulbs, or $30 for 2 LEDs on a vehicle with 200k miles.. I can replace them 7 more times before the cost balances out. Don't think i'll do that before she gives up.
It happens on all makes/models and you will see it more and more. The led driver boards go bad from shorting out from something. Led's might last a long time but the circuit board does not and that's why i don't believe in the hype of led everything. I'll stick with the old school halogen bulbs and incandescent. They last longer then led stuff currently out.
