Does anyone know if there is a list of current automobile models (2014-2016?) and which have timing belts in lieu of timing chains?

It has been quite some time since I owned a car with a belt, and I'd like to continue to avoid them.

this is a great idea for a thread, I would love to see such a list

I would print it, laminate it, and consult it prior to any car purchase, new or used

It used to be that any traditional 2-valve V8 with the "under-head" cam would always have a chain

the newer 4cyl/6cyl engines with OHV would be belt

the lines have blurred recently as many of the small motors are switching to chain, and some V8's are belt

Strange question. Wouldn't you narrow it down to 4-5 cars first, then you can just do your belt vs chain research for those particular models?

My list of things to avoid (in order of importance)

1- Timing Belts
2- Drum Brakes (some cheap Korean cars still use them in the rear)
3- Hankook Tires
4- hubcaps
5- CVT Transmissions

1 - Makes sense
2 - Honestly not sure if any cars have drum brakes anymore, and if so it's a very small number
3 - There is a recall on the Hankook's on $40K Hyundai Genesis so also good call. But this wouldn't stop me from purchasing a car.
4 - Avoid base models and you'll be ok. Again not a deal breaker
5 - Hit or miss. CVT great for gas mileage and new ones are getting better. But I prefer regular auto tranny also

Yeah wheels and tires are easy to swap out. Could even be worked into the purchase deal. Seemingly infinite number of better and cheaper options out there than a factory wheel upgrade package.

Regular autos should be avoided too.

That doesn't make any sense. If you can hear a timing chain, its riding on busting chain tensioners/guides and being owned by someone who does zero maintenance.

Almost all new engines have a timing chain. Even 4 and 6 cylinder. My 2011 Kia Sorento had a chain. My 2013 Kia Sportage and 2015 Hyundai Sonata also have timing chains. All were/are 4 cylinder. The last car I owned with a timing belt was my 2003 Kia Rio.
