Sounds like you need to buy a car from the 1930's to make sure it has nothing electrical on it.

I can't understand why this has to be a "test of wills".

If I don't want the radio on.... I turn it off.

If I don't want a window open... I close it.

I don't sit in the vehicle and say..."Well BMW put on the radio and the station... I better not change it".

There are simply some '"enthusiast" who prefer to have the operation of the vehicle and it's features under their control.

My very first car was a brand new "Datsun" 260Z. Manual transmission, Manual steering, standard brakes.

AND check this out.... A manual choke.....

It ran like a scolded Ape and allowed virtually total control of the vehicle.

To guys like me it is annoying that you spend 60K on a car and can't get it they way "I LIKE".

Rather Hans and Helmet are making the decisions, and I can't even get a say.

Further..... I am not asking that additional features be included.... Simply a way to opt out.

When they have to meet government regulations, no, you don't get a say. And these are minor things to worry about.

Here is a suggestion: don't ask questions here, go search on dedicated BMW 3 series forums (back when I owned my Bimmers, I used to frequent e90post, bimmerfest, so on). You would definitely get better quality of information from people who actually own your car and who have experienced same issues.

I mean, this place is called "City-Data." Seriously?

First, allow me to say.... I have ZERO interest in making this a "rope and urine" contest.

But.... I just had what I think is an amusing thought....

I can completely disable the vehicle stability control... arguably making for unsafe vehicle operation....

But... I can not disable "rev matching" because it might add one or two tenths of a gallon of fuel use.

It boggles the mind.

The way to opt out is to buy a different car that doesn't have that feature.

Yu'll need to buy an E30 instead of a bloated Pontiac looking BMW

If I press the "off" button above the start/stop button my BMW, the "engine off" feature stays disabled until I turn it back on again.
