My mother in law drives a 2015 Regal (when she is not scooting around in her Z4 convertible), and it is very comfortable. The back seat holds a car seat for my baby and the rider in the front set can still put their seat back as far as they want. The ride is not exactly sporty, but it is very smooth and quiet in the city or on the highway, and it seems to accelerate well for the type of car that it is. I don't have a lot of experience with the newer Cadillacs, but my perception is that the Cadillac is a bit more bling while the Buick is more understated.
2013 Cadillac Certified ATS with low miles and 2015 Buick Regal non-certified (turbo engine) with low miles
The Cadillac ATS has a tiny 10.4 cu. ft. trunk. I think this makes it unusable for a weekend trip or even a large grocery store trip. I would not even consider the Cadillac ATS as a viable choice.
Cadillac does not impress me, and I get them pretty regularly as rentals or car service vehicles. I looked at the ATS new for an older relative who wanted a smaller vehicle and was getting a guilt trip from people she knows about not "buying American," pretty funny as a Mercedes E is like a Honda Accord in her part of Manhattan. We ended up getting another Mercedes E350 4Matic and the car has been flawless, but she drives on the order of 3-4k miles per year as she travels or uses a car service most of the time. Between the two, however, I'd go with the Buick, but I'd still look at Audi or BMW before a Cadillac ATS.

I have similar offers (out of the door costs $24k) on two vehicles
In that price range I might look at a 2016 6 cylinder Altima. I will take a 2016 Altima with a new car warranty and 270 horsepower over a 3 year old Cadillac ATS.
Guys - I need some insights from car enthusiasts and others who've dealt with these two brands

I cannot decide which one to go for. I have two other vehicles clouding my thoughts - 2014 Buick Lacrosses similar mileage (one is certified one isn't) for about $25k and $27k out of the door respectively.
I was only hoping to spend $20k+government costs (tax/tag etc) so definitely do not want to go higher than 24k unless there is a notable reason to pick up one of those lacrosses
Cadillac guy isn't willing to negotiate at all (which I'm really surprised about. Generally dealers are very amenable to negotiation, atleast somewhat)
ATS by far was the worst car I ever rented for long haul drive. I hated it. Never again. I'd rather do supercharged Buick.
