I do most all the time and there is no doubt that it keeps the car clean longer requiring less car washes.
I use cereal boxes full of old newspapers as weight so the wind doesn't blow it off.
I always roll it up from the front and unroll it from the rear of the car and can put it on or off quickly.
Today I saw a tall SUV with a car cover on it and you would need a stepladder to put the cover on or take it off.

It seems like bungie cords attached to the grommets at the bottom would be a lot better than cereal boxes full of newspapers, especially in our wet climate. For me, 2-3 good wax jobs a year are a lot easier than taking all that extra time when driving the cars that don't fit in the garage. Again, in our wet climate, it's not going to work anyway, you don't want to put a cover on a wet car and have it get moldy underneath.

I was looking at Google maps street view in LA and Orange County and noticed that so many parked cars had covers over them. The weather is nearly perfect in Southern Cal, what are they trying to guard the car from? Sun damage?

We get pretty horrid weather where I'm living now but I almost never see covers on parked cars.

Only in the garage, just to keep dust and protect it when I'm inside the garage doing other things.

Outdoors, no cover. Had back luck with wind chaffing on a car when using a cover outdoors

OP, are you talking about on a car that sits for long periods or cars like daily drivers?

I generally see car covers on vehicles that do not move all that often. Heck, I've seen cars in garages with car covers on them. At a public place like the mall, I cannot recall ever seeing a car with a car cover in the parking lot.

No, I don't use a car cover. I never have. I've put a tarp over the car when wet, heavy snow with ice is in the forecast.

Only when stored inside, to keep the dust off.
