Unlikely but some flat washers might be good idea so you don't damage the the plastic.

Personally if it were me I'd just put an aluminum revit with big head on it but I have the tools and the revits sitting there........

Go to literally any auto parts store, and ask where the fasteners are for the plastic fender liners (another term for the plastic piece). You don't need an exact match, just something that'll go into the holes and secure it. Most parts stores employees will come out and look at it / help out if they're not too busy. The counter people get low pay, and appreciate a small tip!

Those Xmas tree fasteners as mentioned do sound like a good idea. Most of the rivets one might find would have to be set 'flattened' in order to work anyway. The most you would need for those plastic ribbed things is a to maybe enlarge the holes a bit with a drill or probably even an awl.
